The month of METAL (and its not the rock heavy metal 🤘)
We all love fall and everything that comes with it right? A couple of those super important things is 1. gathering and celebrate the wisdom / harvest that has been growing the past seasons (how we enjoy the bounty of vegetation) 2. Shed what is no longer serving us (kinda like how leaves lose their color and fall to the ground) 3. Make preparations for the coming season, winter.
How is that Metal Mar?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine this Fall season is the time of the Metal Element. It related to our lungs and small intestine. Common around this time is our nose and sense of smell. I mean who doesn't love the smell of freshly baked apple crisp or pumpkin pie? Right? It is also the time to feel the emption of grief.
"Metal inspires us to live authentically, aligned with our highest principles, so we can feel a genuine pride in who we are and who we are becoming. It gives us a sense of the sacred, reminding us of what's most valuable to focus on so we don't waste our time on trivial endeavors. This element empowers us to discover our true purpose in life and to do meaningful work that fulfills that calling. And Metal allows us to transform our losses, regrets and greif into wisdom and gratitude, like the final state in the alchemical process of tuning lead into gold"
What I find so fascinating about all of this is there is an ancient road map to follow. Want to know if you have an imbalance, well there are typical signs and symptoms. Want to know how to enhance the transition... there is a map with recommendations to follow!
If you have an imbalance during this time you may show the following symptoms:
- prone to colds, coughs or respiratory ailments from a depleted immune system
- ailments of the lungs including asthma, bronchitis and lung cancer
- environmental sensitivities (seasonal allergies)
- excessive sweating
- increases in anxiety (because metal governs the grieving process)
- feelings of low self-esteem
- financial issues (emotional issues with money)
- Large Intestine issues (Constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's disease)
- skin disorders (psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo)
What to do to support the metal/seasonal shift:
- Enhance Metal Establish a Rhythm (make like predictable)
- Direct Metal towards wood (clear clutter and get organized)
- Drain Metal with water (be creative without rigid control)
- Control Metal with Fire (Burn candles, use the fireplace, use the stove to cook seasonal
- Eating seasonal and adding sour ingredients like vinegar or citrus peels

Pumpkin Blackbery Shake
1/4 - 1/2 c pumpkin puree
1/4 - 1/2 c Frozen Blackberries
2 Scoops Vanilla FeelFit Protein
1 Scoop GutHealth Prebiotic Fiber
1 Scoop MCT oil
10 oz unsweetened non-dairy milk
Place ingredients in blender and blend.
Butternut Squash Turkey Chili
GF Pumpkin Bread
Creamy Apple Cider Vinegar Chicken
2 seedless cucumbers, sliced
1/2 red onion, sliced thin
1/2 cup chopped parsley
Juice of 2 lemons
2 T honey
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
instructions: Toss together all ingredients until honey is dissolved. Let sit for at least ten minutes before serving.
